About the Festival
Antonín Tučapský
The Antonín Tučapský Competition is a two-day competition for choirs focusing on classical choral work from all stylistic periods. Its aim is to support high-quality choral interpretation, the development of dramaturgical culture, and the artistic growth of amateur and youth choirs.
A characteristic feature of the competition is the obligatory composition by Antonín Tučapský, common to all competition categories, which creates a common interpretative reference point and recalls the significance of his work in the context of European choral music. The obligatory composition is not understood as a thematic limitation, but as a unifying element of the competition, to which the choirs build on their own dramaturgical concept.
The competition programs are composed freely while adhering to the set dramaturgical, time and technical criteria. The emphasis is placed on stylistic persuasiveness, work with sound and thoughtful interpretation across different musical periods. All competition performances take place in the hall of the Besední dom in Vyškov. The final concert of the laureates will take place this year in the Cemetery Church.
Mentoring program and expert feedback from the juryThe Antonín Tučapský Competition is designed not only as a competition showcase, but also as a professional and inspirational meeting of choirs and choirmasters. An integral part of the competition is therefore the jury's mentoring program, focused on professional feedback and support for the further artistic development of the participants. Each competing choir has the opportunity to participate in a joint expert analysis of performances after individual competition blocks or in a short individual meeting with the jury according to the organizational schedule.
Feedback focuses mainly on: choirmaster's leadership and work with the choir, intonation and sound culture, stylistic interpretation, dramaturgical concept of the program, interpretation of the mandatory composition by Antonín Tučapský. Expert feedback within the mentoring program is provided exclusively in an educational context and is not part of the competition's scoring.
