Competition of choirs in the A. Tučapský region

The Antonín Tučapský competition in Vyškov continues the long-term efforts of the city and the region to care for


about the tradition of choral singing and to commemorate personalities who have significantly shaped this area. Antonín Tučapský, a composer and choirmaster associated with the Moravian environment and the Vyškov district, is one of the authors whose choral work has a firm place in Czech and international interpretation practice. The competition bears his name not only as a tribute to the personality, but as a lively space for contemporary choirs to meet over the values that his music represents – cultivated sound, understandable expression and a deep relationship to the text.

Conditions for participation in the upcoming year:
 

  • The competition is divided into two categories, A and B, which are further divided into subcategories according to the cast of the choir.

  • The competition day for category A is Friday, May 22, 2026, and for category B, Saturday, May 23, 2026.

  • Each choir in category A registers with a program of at least 10 to 12 minutes in length, and a choir in category B with a program of 12 - 15 minutes of pure musical time.

  • Each choir applying to a category must meet the conditions set out below and complete them in the application form.

  • A condition for successful choir registration is the provision of sheet music by uploading an attachment to the application form (except for mandatory compositions).

  • Applications can be submitted no later than March 31, 2026.

  • In the event of a large number of applications, the organizer reserves the right to organize a selection of choirs based on the recordings required to be provided as part of the application form.

  • A valid application also includes payment of the participation fee, which in 2026 is 2000 CZK per choir + 300 CZK for each participant for both categories.

  • The fee will be divided into two parts: immediately after registration and confirmation of participation by the organizer in the amount of 2000 CZK based on an invoice, and then on site during registration, the remaining part of the fee, based on the exact number of choir members.

  • The application also includes the option of choosing whether the choir would like the organizer to assist in arranging accommodation during the competition. Each choir is responsible for its own accommodation. A specific offer of accommodation capacities will be sent to interested choirs after the application deadline.

Required songs
for categories
A and B

 

Category A: Youth choirs SATB

 

This category is not divided into subcategories.

If there is interest in the participation of women's or men's youth choirs, it is possible to use the mandatory repertoire of categories B2 and B3.

 

The organizer will send interested parties the sheet music of the mandatory compositions upon request, before submitting applications.

 

Participants' ages range from 18 to 26 years.

In this category, a tolerance of 10% of choir members outside this age range is allowed.

 

Pure musical performance time 10 to 12 minutes.

 

Number and nature of compositions:

 

  • 3–5 songs depending on the length of the program

  • at least 2 a cappella songs

  • accompaniment (piano / organ) allowed for a maximum of 1 song

  • One mandatory composition by Antonín Tučapský from the selection below. This composition is part of the competition limit and is evaluated separately. The performer may choose more than one composition from the selection.

  • The rest of the competition program must include: at least 1 piece of older music (Renaissance / Baroque / Classicism), at least 1 piece from the 20th or 21st century.

Category B: Adult amateur/semi-professional choirs

Three subcategories: B1Adult mixed choirs, B2: Adult male choirs, B3: Adult female choirs

Upon request, the organizer will send the sheet music for the compulsory pieces to interested parties prior to the submission of applications.

Age of participants over 26 years.

Minimum number of singers of an choir is 10.

Clear musical duration of performance 12 to 15 minutes. 

Number and nature of compositions:

  • 3–5 songs depending on the length of the program
